Congratulations to Wollersheim Winery of Prairie du Sac, winning 2012 Winery of the Year honors at the San Diego International Wine Competition.
I've long been a fan; their Prairie Fume has been winning awards for years and is one of my favorite wines. The success of the winery is a happy accident; a young French winemaker-in-training ended up with an internship in Wisconsin (he was decidedly not happy about that), and ended up falling in love with the area as well as the daughter of the vineyard owner. He's done a great job with the place.
If you ever find yourself in central Wisconsin, the tour and tasting is well worth the time.
