Ah, Tuesday!

Unlike Robbo, who believes Tuesday is the foulest day of the week, I rather enjoy it. Less frenetic than Monday, more productive than Friday and with an optimism not often found on the other two days. On Tuesday, anything is possible by the end of the week!

Why yes, I do have rather too much work to do. In order to clear out the cerebral vault to make room for tax-related cogitation, some brain lint:

  • This article from the WSJ about a study that probed the reasons behind our physical reactions to music (tears, goose bumps) is fascinating. The researchers could tie the reactions to specific elements in the music itself. What music makes you tear up, even when you don't particularly want to do so?
  • I've been listening to the archived sermons from the church I'm currently attending, and haven't heard preaching this good in almost thirty years. The entire eldership is passionate about both sound Biblical preaching and inspiring the congregation to faithfully follow the Word.
  • Did I mention that the church meets smack dab in the middle of an arts community? We share the building (and our service) with painters, sculptors, photographers, musicians and tattoo artists.
  • Did I also mention the church is (shhhh) Pentecostal? Not obviously so, and not enough to cause an issue at my current level of involvement. Whether or not this will become home depends on just how Pentecostal it really is. Given the incredible emphasis the elders place on the use of Scripture as the basis of faith and church life, I don't think they would take a dogmatic position on a post-salvation baptism of the Spirit. We'll see.
  • The Starbucks card from Katharine arrived in yesterday's mail, just in time to be used for Starbucks Appreciation Day. Nothing like using a cup of coffee to support gun rights. (Here's a question, though. Starbucks says they will follow local law. In Wisconsin, carry permits are now available, but businesses can post signs banning guns from their establishment. What is Starbucks' policy here, then?)
  • There was a horrific accident Sunday morning. Two of the dead are adult children of friends of mine; one of them is the mom of a girl who was in my AWANA group ten years or so ago. Please pray for the families, for God's comfort and peace, for some compassion from the press (the local newspaper, apparently denied an interview with the parents, hacked their Facebook accounts for quotes).
  • Went to the pricier grocery last night - when the heck did unsalted butter go up to $4.59 a pound?! Regular butter is less than half that at Aldi. Forty-some dollars' worth of groceries later, there still isn't anything to eat in the house.
