Day is done

Sunday night. Feet up, relaxing at last. Fire, good cup of coffee and old Quantum Leap episodes. I feel much less jangly than I did at the start of the weekend, mostly due to spending much of the time with friends.

As predicted, my little Chinese friend learned canasta very quickly; she and her partner won Friday's  game. We talked a bit about family and cultural differences (believe it or not, the card game Uno is extremely popular among the Chinese right now) and generally had a lot of fun. In spite of the fact any of us is old enough to be her mother, she is excited about coming back next month.

Saturday morning found me at Starbucks with a friend and a special guest: her three year old daughter. Little Miss A is sweet and cute - but also scary smart. Some of my favorite conversations are with three year olds - they are endlessly fascinating.

Sunday afternoon brought a reunion of my original card group, as Pam was in town. We tried playing Fluxx for the first time. Lots of fun, and never the same from game to game. As usual, the amount of food I set out for lunch apparently multiplied. This time, I successfully sent the rest of the cheese and sausage plate off with someone else, but still gained a loaf of bread and a huge hunk of wedding cake.

Totally random aside about wedding cake: There is a strange tradition around these parts that if a single person takes home a piece of wedding cake and sleeps with it under their pillow, they will dream of their future spouse (who, one hopes, likes to wash cake-encrusted laundry). Is this just a weird Milwaukee-ism, or  has anyone else heard of this?
