Java Jive

Regular readers may be aware that I stopped drinking the office coffee eighteen months or so ago. After years of coffee made to tar strength, pots left to char on the burner and the frustration of dealing with half a dozen people who would consistently take juuuuuust enough coffee that a skin was left in the pot so they wouldn't have to make more, I gave up.

I've been bringing in McDonald's or Starbucks every day since.

Because I Am A Nice Person (T), I offered to do an internal clean of the office machine as part of my kitchen assignment for the office cleaning day. It's not difficult - run a pot of vinegar through the machine, followed by several pots of plain water to flush everything out.

We finally got to it this afternoon. Apparently, it had been taking twenty minutes (they timed it) to drip a single pot. Exactly why no one thought to clean the dang thing before this, I don't know.  After the second pot of plain water, the coffee maker was gushing a Niagara-force flow again, good as new.

My own machine is a fancy-schmancy Cuisinart model that is supposed to tell me when it is time to "decalcify". I've had the machine for more than two years, and it hasn't told me yet. Given how slowly it runs, I may just go ahead and do it (radical me).

On another coffee note, the Starbucks I generally spend an hour or so in pre-church is remodeling, I believe so their counter area is big enough to accommodate the machine they use to steam the breakfast sandwiches. They are still open, but as a walk-up business only. The grand reopening is scheduled for December 4th. I went to church this past week sans coffee; it was not a good thing. I may need to break out my own espresso machine again, though where in my kitchen I'll store it, I don't know.

So much trouble caused by a little, dry roasted cherry.
