Go west,, Big 12, young man

Yet another school is leaving the Big East, and yet another idiot is suggesting that Marquette restart the football program it eliminated in 1960. If we had the kind of money it takes to build a stadium and fund a football team, we would use it for scholarships.

After all, our raison d'etre is to educate students, not entertain the masses. And for the record, no, sports boosters do not generally donate money to any university fund other than those that are directly sports related. Sports teams are maintained as a student recruitment tool, and as part of the "student experience".

We provide an excellent education at a (fairly) reasonable price. We're doing all we can to hold tuition increases to the bare minimum, while still providing all the amenities to which the current generation of students feels entitled. We've done an outstanding job navigating the minefield of the last three years without resorting to massive tuition increases or any layoffs or reductions in service.

University. Not sports franchise.
