While Wisconsin's awol Senators are still hiding out in Illinois, local communities are beginning to see the handwriting on the wall - that states Governor Walker will not back down.
In an interesting development, there was a news story in the local paper yesterday - up for all of a couple hours on the on-line version - saying that the mayor of Milwaukee, currently in negotiations with both the police and firefighters' unions, has asked the unions to voluntarily accept the concessions that the Governor is asking for from all the rest of the public unions (under Walker's budget repair bill, police and firefighters are exempt from the limitations placed on the other unions).
What makes this so interesting is that Mayor Barrett is not only a long time Democrat, but Walker's opponent in the election just held.
Rumor has it that five senators were willing - and in talks - to return to the state and do their job, but their plans were quashed by the head of the caucus, who no doubt is being pressured by the national unions.
Something has to give soon, and I'm willing to be it won't be Scott Walker.
