The light filtering through the living room drapes has a particularly luminous quality that can mean only one thing: snow.
Last night's forecast claimed we could see up to two to four inches; at the moment, a scant half inch is on the ground, barely enough to be called a dusting, except that this is the first snow of the season. In spite of the fact that we have three to four months of snow cover every year, year after year, people in Wisconsin lose their minds during the first snow.
Unfortunately, I need to be out among the lunatics, at least in the morning. Out to breakfast (optional, true, but I've been up since four (went to bed unreasonably early and actually slept for eight hours) and think I deserve a treat - and copious amounts of coffee), then to a hair appointment, with a detour afterwards to the butcher shop next door.
Home again, to make cold-weather food: chicken biscuit casserole, a batch of gumbo for tomorrow and perhaps a batch of Christmas cookies. The tree still needs to be decorated; Christmas music and cookies are needed to help that process along.
Hmm. The live stream of the morning news in the other browser window is showing plows out four miles west of here. It is difficult to say whether it is simply overkill (they showed a shopping mall parking lot - have to make sure those Christmas shoppers are safe!) or if it is truly warranted.
The cosiness of home is more appreciated after having been out in the battles; I'm off to brush off the car!
