Saturday dinner and things

Blackened salmon, rosemary rolls and green beans are on the slate for dinner tonight.  That is, if the salmon finishes thawing, the rolls finish rising and I remember to cook the beans.  I figure I'm about forty-five minutes to an hour out from actually eating.  And as soon as I'm done, it will be bed time.

Between the infernal heat and needing to be at work at 6:30 whilst working summer hours, I've developed a rather child-like sleep pattern.  In bed between seven-thirty and eight-thirty, and up somewhere between four and half past.  The (ridiculously) early bedtime is mostly a heat avoidance tactic developed this last week, since the bed is the coolest spot in the house, provided you don't move.  At all.

Starbucks very early this morning, until just before ten.  Home in time to park before the influx of $10 parking fee-avoiders going to the fair.  Putzing since.

Little by little, I'm ridding the house of things that I really don't want to have to box up and move.  Today I went through the cabinet with the decorative stuff - candles, floral rings, little art pieces.  It also contained old cassette tapes (tossed - while I have a player, I've not played these things in at least four years) and a stack of old programs and ticket stubs from races (kept - I'm not sure why, but I'm not ready to get rid of them yet).  Monday will bring a trip to the city yard to drop off old paint, then one to Goodwill to take another load of stuff.

Yep, exciting times.

Actually, a friend from high school is in town this next week, and we are getting together on Monday.  She's the friend I blame for dragging me into the theater (although by the time we met, I'd already starred in a musical, acted in and directed a play and acted in the big Girl's Club annual production).  While she is an incredibly talented actress and singer, she chose the route of more power (and steady work) and has been directing shows out east for years, both in community theater and as staff at a private prep school.  We've known each other for more than two thirds of our lives.

You do the math.

Time to poke the salmon and peek at the rolls.  I turned the oven on low, just to generate a little additional heat to help the rolls rise (they are in a cast iron skillet on the stovetop, wrapped in a towel).  Have I mentioned my obsession with Ree Drummond's Rosemary RollsRun out and try them.  Really.  The salmon seems to be thawed, so as soon as the rolls come out of the oven I can sear it up.

Y'all are welcome to dinner anytime.
