More non-plans

Today's non-plan is a craft day with a friend. I'm hosting, which really means putting together a meal. We'll mess with fabric for a while before breaking for lunch.

The Pioneer Woman has a recipe in her cookbook for Peach Cobbler with Maple Cream Sauce; it looked pretty good, and Pam likes peaches. I made the cream sauce last night - heaven in a spoon. Since dessert is maple flavored, I've opted to do maple-brined pork chops for the main dish; all the prep is done the night before, with only the quick pan cooking to be done today. A pasta salad and caprese salad round out the sides. Didn't pick up rolls, and don't much feel like baking this morning. Pam is brining a vegie plate, so we should be set.

As for crafts...I've finally decided exactly what pattern to use for the last of the wedding quilts. It's a paper pieced New York Beauty block, similar to this, although the base piece (the quarter circle at the lower left of the picture) is all one piece of fabric rather than a quarter circle and arc, and the background between the spines (teal on the photo) will match the block background (the purple batik). The quarter circles will be varied blues, the spines varied reds and the background assorted whites/ecrus/tans. The end effect is a much more traditional rendering of the block than the linked picture. At any rate, I'd like to cut the pieces needed for the spine arcs, as it is that paper piecing that will take the longest.

If bored, I can always switch back to machine quilting the stained glass quilt. There, I'm doing an all-over leaf pattern - vines growing up the windows, in essence. It's slow going, mostly because I'm trying to use a larger quilting motif, which means moving the quilt more often. If that doesn't strike my fancy, I've another quilt top partially cut out to work on, or the handsewing on the quilt I finished Monday.

Idle hands are the devil's workshop.
