Stormy weather

A rather slow-moving bank of thunderstorms passed through our area later last night. While most nights I can fall asleep in under five minutes, last night I had one of those rare instances of ceiling-staring inability to drop off. The last time I looked at the clock, it was close to eleven (awfully late for me on a weeknight).

Twenty minutes later, the storms started. I managed to miss the beginning, only awakening just before one a.m., when they got really loud. The heavenly sound and light show went on for the next hour or so at a furious tempo; I think it slowed down a it after that. I'm not entirely sure, as I finally passed out fell back asleep for a bit, only to wake again around four to the sound of continuing rain.

By the time I actually got out of bed, the rain had stopped and the sidewalks were beginning to steam. Summer arrived in a fury, indeed, bringing heat as well as storms; today's high should be near ninety. More storms on the horizon for tonight, then hot, humid and miserable for the next week.

Weekend plans? An event tomorrow that should be fun, though there is some weirdness related to it - more on that later. Finding a cool place to pass some time is high on the priority list as well. The lack of sleep is making it difficult to remember anything at all at the moment. Before I even unlocked my office door this morning, I was in the kitchen making coffee.

Not so sure it will help.
