In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. -Genesis 1:1
I love beginnings. The first day of school, the start of a new quilt project, the beginning of a new relationship, the fresh pages of a new notebook. Everything is shiny and fresh, filled with anticipation and delight.
Did God feel the same way as He spoke creation into being? Each time He spoke, new and marvelous things were formed, each day building on and refining the work of the day before. Finally, on the sixth day, He created man, in His own image, breathing into him the breath of life.
And it was very good.
But it didn't stay that way. Man's sin marred God's perfect creation. Yet even in His heartbreak over our betrayal, God had a plan for redemption. He first alluded to it when He was cursing the serpent:
"I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." - Genesis 3:15
In spite of the betrayal, in spite of the ruin of His perfect creation, God would provide a way back to Him.
Amazing.
