**Yawn**

A sleepy start to 2009, after a delightful evening with friends hosted by Grace. Note the time on the previous post; that was fifteen minutes after I got home, and five minutes after I realized I was wide awake. Sleep did eventually come around quarter after four - after only being awake for twenty-three and a half hours. I cannot remember the last time that happened.

Snippets of the evening -

- Enough food to feed a small country, including a buffalo chicken dip that is downright addictive.
- A rousing game of Apples to Apples - it is a mystery how some folks' minds work, that's all I'm saying.
- The poor feather boa moulting all over Grace's house (sorry about that!).
- Chatting at length with new friends from church, learning their background, sharing ours and delighting in their sweet, godly spirits.
- A wonderful devotional by our pastor just before midnight.
- An unexpected and lovely surprise birthday cake, cards and gifts, which entailed my pastor's wife not quite lying to me, but certainly stretching out what should have been a ten second conversation. Yes, I was clueless (why are you not surprised?). Thank you, dear friend Grace, for organizing it!
- A quick visit for the surprise by a young friend - taking time out of her NY Eve, away from her fiance (she's the one getting married Saturday!) just to say Happy Birthday - Renae, that means more to me than you can know.
- More laughter than can be counted.

It's been a quiet day today. The landlords left for Illinois, bound eventually for Israel, at about noon today. Laundry is spinning, an old Jimmy Stewart movie is playing (Flight of the Phoenix, if you are interested) and I'm sewing the marabou trim onto the cape hood. Little bits of fluffy feather are floating all over the sewing room, which will need a major cleaning after this project is done.

Thinking about supper soon, and an early evening. Time enough tomorrow to rush into the events of the new year - for today, a leisurely day.
