Whatever that may be, at a mandatory departmental picnic that at least one-quarter of the department has elected not to attend.
At least this year it is catered, rather than us having to haul grills and food/beverages for fifty people (we added an office to our department, and are now up to about 80 people overall). I threw a deck of cards and a deck of Uno in the trunk, to encourage a rematch of last year's rousing card games...at which, come to think of it, we didn't keep score.
We deal with numbers all week, so it seemed like too much effort.
Later...
It really was a lot of fun. Picture perfect day - sunny, temperature right at seventy-two, picnic tables in both the shade and the sun, velvet green grass and trees just beginning to turn colors. It's nice to have some time to talk about non-work things, without feeling you are "stealing time" from work that needs to be done. Just the putting names and faces together will be helpful for the future.
And now to have weekend fun...I made plans for Saturday dinner with one friend, and immediately had someone else call to make lunch plans for the same day. Between the picnic food and two meals out tomorrow, I should have enough food stored up in me to last the winter. Jeesh. Maybe we need to take up golf or something - anything a little more active.
Oh - and Marc - I adore Catchphrase. But even that has some interesting words. The last time I played it, I ended up passing on three words in a row - the first one was bord3llo, and it went downhill from there. Must have been a programming glitch. Apples to Apples is a little too subjective for me - I find it hard to guess what the other person will find to be "similar". Cranium is fun - everyone on the team will find at least one type of question they are very good at answering/doing, since it's designed to use all areas of the brain. I can spell almost anything backwards, I've found (frontwards is another story).
