I was all set to make many snarky comments about spring, or the lack of it. We have a chance of light snow in next week's forecast, after all.
But when I checked this morning, I saw that Cornell University's red tailed hawk, Big Red, has laid her first egg of the season. Her mate, Ezra, is currently perched on the egg, keeping it warm and fussing with the construction of the nest's egg cup.

It's just fun to watch the littles hatch, grow and eventually become confident enough to leave the nest. This is the third year I've watched a nesting pair, but the first year I've remembered early enough to see the actual nesting, if that makes sense.
At any rate, it's a great blood pressure dropper, to check in a couple times a day and see what's up.

Last year when I watched your hawks, I was fascinated at them. This year, with having five chickens, I look at hawks in a completely different way. Fear!!! :)
LOL! The pair at Cornell haven't brought any chickens back to the nest to feed on (yet, at least). But I can understand the fear, especially when the chickens are roaming in the yard. Those hawks are pretty fast.
