Our Palm Sunday service was excellent, and as always, the preaching was outstanding. I'd intended to put together a post from my notes, but it's a busy week and I'd like to get the basics out there before they are stale (well, if great truth can ever actually get stale). Besides, this is a great way to introduce you to Mercy Hill.
The sermon from Sunday is available in both video and audio formats here. Apologies for the kind of off-center video; generally they are much better, but the church has been used a lot in the last two weeks and things get a bit discombobulated. If it bothers you, just listen to the audio. The entire sermon runs forty minutes (no barely half hour "snacks" here - love it!).
The main point is that while Palm Sunday is almost always portrayed as a triumph, as Christ enters Jerusalem and is hailed on every side as the Messiah, the call to follow Him is really a call to suffer as He did. The people hailing His entry didn't have a true picture of who Messiah was, or of what He came to do. Sadly, we often have the same problem. As a result, we often share with people saying that Jesus came to give us abundant life, the best life we can have. We aren't sharing the true picture.
Give a listen, then give your thoughts in the comments.
