Out later than usual last night, so some randomosity:
Is there anything cuter than little girls in tutus? A very young friend had her first ballet recital last night. I had another commitment, but the pictures her parents have posted are priceless. Back in the day, I took ballet lessons, too, but I was all about the costumes. Still love satin and net!
The incredible March heat wave will be calming a bit after today, though it will still be warmer than usual. Even Lake Michigan has warmed substantially.
I went to the women's group at my new church last night for the first time - and loved it. The age range runs from early twenties to older than me, women with a deep love for Scripture and a commitment to living it. As a special surprise, a friend I'd not seen in a while was at the group; she and her husband have been going to the church for about six months. Confirmation upon confirmation that I'm in the right spot.
Our university's team is in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Naturally, the local fish wrapper has to drag up an incident from January in an attempt to discredit the team and ruin their chances (much better for the very liberal paper if the equally liberal University of Wisconsin, also in the Sweet Sixteen, advances in the tournament rather than a Catholic, Jesuit university). Honestly, this is a case of kids being kids, and the university has dealt with it. Why drag it up now?
Canasta this Friday, with a couple of new people thrown into the mix. My Chinese student (student from China, not one learning Chinese (which I don't know) from me) is coming as well. Last time she came, she not only learned to play the game, but beat us all. These international students are scary smart.
I'm hunting for dinner or lunch guests for the next installment of Tuesdays with Dorie. The assignment is Pizza Rustica, a sort of main dish pie. The pastry crust is filled with cheese, spinach and prosciutto (and probably other things I've forgotten at the moment). I could probably do a half recipe and use a smaller pan, but it's more fun to have guests over. If you are (reasonably) local and are interested, as well as available this weekend or next, contact me.
In the hunt for a description of the pizza rustica, I came across information that said it's a traditional Italian Easter food. Huh; never heard of it. The Sicilian side of my family always had ham for Easter (because - yay! - unlike Thanksgiving, where we had to make turkey AND ham because my grandmother refused to eat poultry (claimed she killed/plucked too many as a girl and it left her traumatized) we only had to make one major main dish).
