Coffee in the kitchen, pardon me if I don't get up. Spent part of last night crawling around on the floor putting together a television stand. This is one of the smaller things I've done - small furniture assembling is one of the things that make me "glow", as Rachel describes. Even the little allen wrenches don't make me crazy (that may be because years ago I bought myself a full set of real allen wrenches - makes things easier!).
One of the things dealt with this week was a shelf in the bedroom that the previous owners must have used for a television. The shelf itself was only about twenty inches square, but I've never seen such huge screws in all my life. The largish-normal screws that you could see on the brackets actually went into monster screws, which themselves were fastened into plastic anchors.
Carumba.
They were removed with only minimal damage to the wall. Minimal as in leaving only four nickel sized holes. Good thing I'm a fair hand at wall repair; these won't be noticable at all once patched, primed and painted (whenever I finally have the bedroom painted).
The bigger problem will be removing the other shelf - a pretty, four inch deep shelf that is the width of a queen size bed. I can't even see how that one is attached. I'm hoping it's keyholes that slide down over screws, but I'll need at least one other person to help hold it and gently hammer on the bottom to see if it comes up...
Those have been my adventures in home ownership for the week.
