These three day weekends are always a bit confusing. This one more so than most, as it has kind of blended all into itself.
On Thursday night last week, I realized I was coming down with the dreaded Office Cold (TM). This is the lingering coughing, stuffy, headachy not-quite-sinus thing that has been hanging around the water cooler for the last couple of months. When I didn't catch it in time for it to make my vacation miserable, there was much rejoicing.
But it's a sneaky devil, laying in wait until I was back at work in the busiest part of the year.
Fortunately, we generally can go home an hour earlier on the day before a holiday...I left work at 2:30 on Friday and was wrapped in a quilt in front of the television, copious containers of liquid and boxes of kleenex to hand by 3:05.
And there I stayed most of the weekend. At my count, I watched at least six movies, half a dozen episodes of Quantum Leap and part of a strange infomercial. I did manage to make a huge pot of turkey soup on Saturday morning while the handyman was finishing up the plumbing stuff. As soon as he left I was back on the couch.
It seems to have worked. I felt well enough this morning to make it out to Starbucks for a while. Home for a rest (and General Hospital, if the truth is told) then off to a hair appointment that had been rescheduled from Saturday (I have to be really sick to miss a hair appointment). A quick stop at the grocers on the way home, and back in front of the television.
I do feel much better, but also have the sneaking suspicion it would be easy to overdo things and land back on the sick list. As a preventative measure, I plan to spend the evenings the rest of this week back on the couch watching movies until it is time for an early bedtime. Sounds like a plan to me...
