Sunday night drive-by

I despise electric ranges.

Seriously.

I'm trying to do some actual work for work that must be done tomorrow (and since my coworkers never leave me alone at work, I get more done at home), while simultaneously cooking a big pot of shredded barbecued chicken for the potluck at work tomorrow.

Long story short, after less than ten minutes simmering, the dang bbq burned. Since this is my biggest stockpot (six pounds of meat - three for work, three for my freezer) I needed to temporarily dump the (unscorched) food into my second biggest pot (five quarts, and it barely fit), then soak and scrub the stockpot, so the chicken could be returned to it to be cooked the rest of the way. Sheesh. My cookware is enamel over cast iron (well, over stainless for the stockpot) and you can't use steel wool on it. It took forever.

So, it's after eight and I've not only not had dinner, but I've not gotten much work done. How could I, what with jumping like a jack in the box to go stir the chicken every six minutes when the timer goes off? Not to mention running upstairs to get the stuff I've been printing.

I was looking forward to a glass of wine, but with not having eaten since about noon, it probably isn't a good idea - drinking and doing accounting, you know.

It's been that kind of weekend, anyway. The highlight of the weekend was meeting a friend for coffee, who surprised me by both insisting on buying my coffee and giving me a sweet gift.

Speaking of coffee, that actually sounds like a good idea right now...though the way things are going, I'd forget to put the pot back under the spout before I hit "brew".
