For a few minutes last night, it appeared that my epitaph would read, "trampled to death by Clydesdales". While that would have made a great conversation starter at my wake (well, for everyone but me), it didn't quite come true, though it was a close call.
Two massive semis exited at my ramp last night, one in front of me, one in the lane to my right. The trailer portions were air conditioned, extra tall and full of horses, according to the signs on the trucks. Both were on their way to the fairgrounds, and in making that left turn at the bottom of the ramp almost squished me.
Ah, yes: the State Fair begins tomorrow.
From all indications, at least the first five days of the run will have gorgeous weather - high seventies, low eighties and much lower humidity. It should help boost the attendance (along with the addition this year of deep fried butter).
I've been doing the annual pre-Fair provision runs the last few days - stocking up on paper products and groceries to eliminate last minute after work stops. It's funny, but while I am perfectly content to spend a lot of time at home - some weekends, I only leave the house for church - during this ten days when I really can't leave the house much, that's all I want to do. Perverse human nature.
The plan for this stretch is to do as much packing as possible, weeding and sorting through the closets, in particular. I am off Friday; the inspection on the condo is "early" in the morning (I'm sorry, but when you routinely get up before five and out of the house by six, nine a.m. is not early), I'm hoping to get one load dropped at Goodwill before the hordes of fair-goers park up my street.
This is the last year I need to deal with the Fair related parking issues. Yay!
