Apparently, it stormed last night. Me? I was dead to the world. While I don't sleep well during these heat waves, I do sleep hard. The roadsides still had a bit of water on them when I left the house this morning.
My boss can truly be a good guy, and he gave me leave to not come in until after my meeting with the attorney this morning. That gave me a full hour more sleep during the coolest part of the night. By the time I left the house just before seven, the guys on working on the road out front were hard at work. It seems they plan to pour the portion of the intersection that comes into our street today. I feel for them; no matter how early the start, it is brutal out there.
A rare weekday treat: breakfast out. The law office just happens to be across the street from Baker's Square, and last night's Master Chef left me with a craving for eggs benedict. Or what passes for them at Baker's Square. Their coffee, though, is excellent.
The meeting went well. I need one more piece of information from my banker, and the attorney will write up the offer. Then the dance begins. I'm still willing to walk away; the market is softer than half-set pudding, and people in Wisconsin stop house hunting as fall approaches (no one in their right mind wants to move in winter). If this doesn't work, something else will.
I had one of the most frustrating but funniest conversations ever with my landlord yesterday. I had called to let them know I wouldn't be home tonight nor tomorrow (seeking shelter elsewhere) and he swore to me he was having a/c installed. When pressed, he said he hadn't scheduled it, but was waiting for one of the companies to break down their estimate for him. On further questioning, he admitted these were the estimates he got back in late August 2010 (which will no longer be good). When I remarked that it looked as if I shouldn't count on any a/c being installed in time to make a difference this summer, he told me - in a very irate tone - that these things don't happen overnight.
::blink, blink:: It's only been two years plus since this all started. For him, that's quick.
It will be a moot point shortly, God willing.
