The air at seven a.m. felt warm, but not unpleasantly so. Breathing was easy, the sun obscured behind light clouds. Not so two hours later, when the humidity hung so thick in the air you felt like you moved through water. Ugh.
Heat avoidance is in high gear. Step one, go see a movie immediately after church. Since when does it cost $13 for one person to go to a matinee ($7.50 for the ticket, the rest for a regular size tub of popcorn)? Yikes. Yes, it is true I don't get out much. Netflix, I love you.
The movie in question was Super 8, put out in part by Spielburg's production company and co-written and directed by J. J. Abrams. Fun movie, though people younger than about 45 aren't going to "get" a lot of it. It's set in 1979, and shot as if it were filmed with an old super 8 camera - slightly faded colors, grainy picture with occasional streaks. Kyle Chandler - one of my favorite actors of all time (loved Early Edition) - is in it as the father of one of the middle school kids who are the central characters of the film. Great way to spend the afternoon, in spite of having to wade through three screens' worth of Harry Potter fans.
Then to Starbucks...the coldest place in the city. I'm wearing jeans and a lightweight t-shirt, and even my feet are cold. I suppose it is one way to get you to drink more coffee...but I've already had a venti, and any more caffeine and it will be that keeping me awake tonight rather than the heat.
But it is seven p.m. now, and I should mosey on home, as I have to work tomorrow...I've switched my summer days to Fridays, though I may end up not taking it this week. Life suddenly got complicated, and work will be more flexible if I work my regular hours (and my boss gives me some leeway, which I think will happen).
