The Milwaukee Common Council has defied all logic and the voices of a whole lot of people, approving plans for a 2.1 mile downtown streetcar line.
The real issue is the $54.9 million in unused Federal transit aid, along with the defeat of the Milwaukee to Madison high speed rail idiocy. Rather than explore whether the funds can be used to bolster the ever-shrinking bus system, without which many of the lower income people politicians love to champion cannot make it to work, the money is going to build a line that will be used by east-siders needing to catch a train to Chicago for their annual shopping trip, or by tourists too confused to realize it won't go anywhere near anything they want to see.
This kind of stupidity is one of the reasons my initial condo search had the requirement "outside of Milwaukee County".
