Rain, rain...

...is here to stay.  Or so it seems, as this is the third? rainy Saturday in a row.  Cloudy and drippy has been a recurrent theme, broken only by single bright, dry, warm days - just enough promise to break our hearts when the rain returns.

I'm not really complaining; I like the cool, rainy days much more than the hot, humid ones. The news that we should be having a cooler and wetter summer than normal is good news in my eyes.

Today's rain led to a longer than anticipated time at Panera this morning, lost in several books.  My review of Tim Challies' The Next Story will go up tomorrow. I finished a short but powerful book called Do the Work, about battling resistance, primarily in artistic endeavors, but really applicable to all aspects of life, and then dipped into the sweetness of Jan Karon's latest Father Tim novel. All in all, a great morning.

A little laundry and cleaning at home, a short nap and a long cooking session. A couple of weeks ago I had a craving for risotto; while I was able to buy the arborio rice quickly, it's taken until now to have the time to make it. Add half a cup of broth, stir, set the timer for five minutes, go do something else. Return when the timer goes off and repeat the process. But it certainly is worth it.

I just took a chocolate cake out of the oven, and the decaf is almost done brewing.  Settling in with Silverado for the evening. Such an incredible cast - Kevin Kline, a very young Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, Scott Glenn, Jeff Goldblum, Brian Dennehy, John Cleese, Jeff Fahey, Roseanna Arquette. So much more satisfying to see a western shot on real prairie than a movie that is all CGI.
