Just an ordinary day

Ever have one of those mornings when you reach over to throw the across the room beat to a pulp silence the alarm, but you stay in bed and have that conversation with yourself?  The one that says you are exhausted and could use several more hours of sleep, that the work on your desk is not all that pressing, and that you may just have enough energy to drag yourself to the computer to e-mail your boss that you are dead?

Yeah, it's been one of those.

Last night I dared to stay up to watch the second part of a two-part show, which pushed my bedtime back over an hour (laugh if you must, but when you function best on eight hours' sleep, and generally get up around 4:30, well, you do the math).  Add to it an out-of-the-ordinary 2:36 a.m. nature call, and it is only by a miracle (and copious amounts of coffee) that I'm still vertical at my desk.

But it gets better.  As I'm staring at my boss with sandy, red-rimmed eyes during our early morning meeting, he casually mentions that a member of the outside auditing firm we are working with on a project is going to be in our office today.  Way to forget to tell me ahead of time.  Sadly, this happens frequently.

But there is red velvet cake in the kitchen (apparently was brought in for a birthday treat yesterday, but since I bring my own coffee and don't stop in the kitchen regularly, I knew nothing about until lunchtime today)(should I be happy or sad that no one bothered to tell me it was there?), sunshine out the window and just a couple of hours until quitting time.

And if I leave here on time, I may be able to catch a nap before bedtime!
