During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.
Exodus 2:23-25
God knew. Two little words with incredible meaning. God not only saw the plight of the Israelites in slavery in Egypt, He knew. He understood on a level no human can approach exactly how His people felt, the frustration and anger they held toward the Egyptians, their sense of abandonment by a God who had promised to always be with them, the seeming hopelessness of their plight.
Understanding - isn't that one of our deepest desires? To be fully understood by another, to know that they "get" us. Even in our closest relationships, there are pockets of misunderstanding, things held back in dark corners or growing under the sink that we don't even acknowledge to ourselves. But not with God; He sees everything, all of you, from your favorite ice cream flavor to your deepest, unexpressed desires and fears.
During those times when we feel isolated, unknown, misunderstood there is still One who understands perfectly. What a comfort.
