Ever have that urge to blog, but have nothing of value to say? Um, yeah...
Oil change last night - covered by my maintenance package. The trunk has been popping open at random intervals (usually while the car is moving!), so I had them take a look - they fixed it at no charge. The only thing I paid for was new wiper inserts...by the time I got to Target last night, I realized they had bent the wiper arms just enough that 75% of the area covered by the wipers was not being cleaned. Yes, I'm going back to have them fix it; I could do it myself in ten seconds, but it's the principle of the thing.
They did make me laugh, though; it snowed off and on all day and through the night yesterday, yet they washed my car as part of the service anyway.
Car maintenance is in advance of a trip "up north" this weekend. I'm taking a long weekend away as a personal retreat of sorts; I simply can't think/pray things through at home, where the siren song of housework, work work and other things plays loudly. It's only a three hour trip, but I'd rather eliminate/minimize the possibility of mechanical failures by having the car looked at before I go.
Though now that I realize they missed the obvious issue with the wipers, my confidence is lagging a bit.
Have I mentioned my love for the Kindle application, even though I don't own an actual Kindle? The software is on my laptop, the ipod touch and my phone...surely the odds are against all the batteries going kerfluey at the same time? I'm taking a bunch of books up north with me, and the electronic versions of the books are much lighter than the books themselves.
The snowplows went down our street at 4:45 a.m. today. Why, I'm not sure, except maybe that the plow drivers haven't had a chance to collect much overtime this winter. The policy in West Allis is not to plow unless we have more than four to six inches; there's barely two on the ground.
The snow is pretty, but it is hampering my ability to get around and get my errands run before leaving town. I've asked for an extra half day of vacation for tomorrow for that reason; it has nothing whatsoever to do with avoiding the massive "project update" meeting for our software upgrade, where the project manager will talk in acronyms for an hour about nothing much. I'm not directly involved in the upgrade (one good thing to come out of my promotion) anyway.
There's pizza in the kitchen leftover from yesterday's retirement lunch. That's all well and good, but more to the point: where's the leftover cake?
