Good afternoon, all. Sorry for the late start; I've been home with the nastiest cold I've had in a long time, and sleep seems to be the only thing that stops the coughing. If I were feeling better, I could offer you a cafe au lait, made with coffee brought home from Cafe du Monde. We'll have to save that for next week, when I won't infect you by playing hostess!
The trip to New Orleans and Belton has come and gone, and since I've been under the weather pretty much the entire week since I've returned, I don't have many posts up. Here is one about the people encountered on just the first day or so of the trip. Here is an account of the dinner/jazz cruise on the Mississippi - it's worth it to listen to the band in the last video. Naturally there was a lot of good food - I feel a bit strange about taking pictures of my food when I'm dining alone in public, but I did get one fuzzy shot of a sandwich.
The last four days of travel were truly vacation, spent with a friend and her son and his family in Belton, Missouri. While I won't post pictures of the kids without permission, I can honestly say they were a delight. When asked at dinner to recite her verse of the day, N., who is turning five in two weeks, started the first verse of Psalm 100...and didn't stop until she reached the end of the psalm, word perfect! Knowing that kids learn much easier than adults is no excuse - I need to take a lesson from her and work harder on my own memory work!
Pam and I took an afternoon/evening to wander into Kansas City, specifically to see the restoration of Union Station. It is gorgeous; I stood in the grand hall and just looked for the longest time (well, until the incredible smell of fudge came wafting my way from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company came my way; they had a promotion where you could buy a pound of fudge, and they would send a pound overseas to the troops - I couldn't pass that up, now could I?).
All in all, it was a sweet visit with a dear friend.
This weekend the only plan is to lay around, take more cold meds and try to beat this cold. The house is stocked with chicken soup, extra tissues and the greatest restorative of all - chocolate.
