The Blue Bird of Happiness
Thursday night I wandered through Stein's Garden Center on a mission to pick up peacock feathers. I also had a gift card from almost a year ago; people don't realize I tend to kill living things. Fortunately, Stein's has much more to tempt the shopper than just plants.
One display featured small plates, mugs and coasters - all marked down by more than 20%. I have no need for more dishes, but a darling latte mug - and saucer! - caught my eye. Much too cute not to take home. It just makes me...happy.
The Benefits of
The pre-service rehearsal for the Good Friday service went well, considering the time constraints we were under. But there is a saying in theater circles...good dress, bad opening night.
Those of us doing monologues were passing among us a single lapel mic. Silly me, I didn't check before putting it on that it was still turned on...not until I was on stage, in the middle of the first sentence did the fact that it wasn't become plain.
Eh. Once you know how to project, the ability doesn't really leave you. The chapel we meet in is fairly small, and the congregation was seated mainly in the center section. The only thing they didn't hear were the two (small) lines I dropped. Today my throat is sore - the character voice I used is lower than my natural speaking voice, and a bit of a strain even without the necessity of throwing to the back row. All in all, though, it went very, very well.
Reading Matters
In addition to calendar, contact and music apps, I've added Bible software, Amazon's Kindle for iTouch and a few other goodies to the ipod. I've used other Bible software on the old Palm (and several different packages on the pc); the nice thing about most programs is that they allow you to add on - for free - some of the classics of the faith (assuming they've been in print so long they are in the public domain).
Since it was considerably cheaper than ordering the hardcover, I downloaded Britt Merrick's Big God for the Kindle reader (excellent book - review later), as an experiment to see if I really could stand reading books in electronic form...all the way through.
The verdict? You betcha. Although I do think I would prefer the ipod to an actual Kindle. I can easily hold the ipod in one hand, turning pages with a flick of the thumb, without my hand falling asleep. There are other differences between the two devices, but so far, this is working for me. Bookmarks, notes and highlighting are all available - helpful little tools.
Red-headed alter ego
The salon visit this morning included highlights. When I said "Red", my stylist (who sports a Carrot Top-orange hair color/style) raised his eyebrows.
It looks great. The red and older copper highlights blend well with the natural (well, more or less natural) brown, but give it a bit of light and fun. I'm feeling feistier already.
The real question - Is is red enough for Agent Gibbs?
