Flowers for baby

Finished the baby quilt last night. Hand sewing the binding down takes a while, even for a small quilt like this one. Ignore the sideways-ness of the one picture and the quality of both; it's difficult to get the contrast and color correct when taking pictures with the Palm Pilot. Maybe Santa will bring me a digital camera for Christmas this year.

Most, but not all, of the squares are quilted with flowers. Some have pointy leaves, some are more daisy-like. A few are roses made of spiral loops. The fabric is much prettier than it seems: light lavender to deep purple, pink and deep pink, all sort of greens. All that is left is to wash it, make and attach the label and take some pictures for the album with the good Nikon. Then it is on to the next project.

Back a few years ago (ok - I think it was 2003. Time flies, you know.) I went to Toronto to meet a group of quilters from an internet quilt forum for a retreat. As part of the retreat, we each brought Maple Leaf blocks to swap. I've finally found a setting I like for them, and may start playing later today. The blocks are fairly small (9" finished) and I have roughly 23 of them. The photo, by the way, only shows the ones I made. I may end up with at least a double sized quilt out of these blocks, if I do it right. The challenge will be to use as much fabric from my stash as possible, buying the bare minimum. You'd be surprised how much fall-themed or fall-color fabric I have. This whole stash-reduction program is not going so well. While I've not purchased totally new fabric for a quilt in several years, working through the backlog has kept me too busy to do scrap quilts to use up the stash.

The really good news is that I've finally found a use for the flamingo-themed fabric I have...
