Utterly random

Randomness is due to staying up late to watch the men's 4 x 800 relay, followed by an unusual bout of insomnia. Four hours (slightly less, actually) of sleep doesn't work for me.

Grocery shopping last night...idle thought while standing in line to checkout, "Gee, that looks like $80 worth of food. No - that cannot possibly be right, even with the meat." Final total:$72.35, after my $8.03 savings were applied. The really disheartening part? I was able to carry all those groceries into the house in a single trip. Along with my work bag and purse. Sigh.

I'm parking underneath the building here at work - how did the car get seagull poop on it?

Fun with auditors: Heh. A different young lady is auditing the contribution portion of our balance sheet and revenue this year. She's caught on to the procedures very well, asking intelligent questions, all of which I could not only answer, but provide the documentation for. I wasn't kidding when I told her the contribution receivables and revenues were reconciled down to the penny - in a year when we did a mid-year major conversion of the entire fund-raising records system, no less. We do those recons as a matter of course, and have since I started here. They aren't going to find any significant issues in my area.

A week of cooler weather, yet I've done no quilting. The baby for whom this quilt is destined is due to be born any day now. The pile of quilts to be quilted is a bit overwhelming - five, not counting the baby quilt. Three of those five are roughly twin size, the fourth either 60 or 72" square, the last a wallhanging. I don't mind the quilting so much - it's the layering of backing, batting and top that is a (literal) pain. Once upon a time, I could take everything to church and use a couple of 6' tables...the quilt shop I go to most frequently will let you pin quilts there, but it is a half hour (and a gallon of gas) away. Cheaper to buy myself some tables.

Late August and September look pretty busy. Like others, I love the whole back-to-school season - probably because I don't have to actually be in school. The first day of classes here at MU is August 25th. Our parking lot is still not done, and it appears it will not be done before then. The Marquette Interchange, however, is scheduled to open fully by August 31st, making getting to campus a bit easier. Which reminds me - our new parking assignments begin on 8/19, but parking has yet to contact us regarding our lot assignments.

Got a call on my cell this afternoon - someone calling from Wisconsin Energies, thanking me for being a budget billing customer, and reminding me to check my next bill to see if my budget payment has gone up (most likely, since they are already trumpeting news of a 22% increase in costs for this coming winter) or down (can you hear me laughing?). It was a live person, not a recording, so I very politely informed him that I monitor my energy usage very closely, and was fully capable of calling WE to adjust my budget billing amount if the circumstances warranted. Left him a bit flummoxed.

So I suppose I'd better finish those quilts soon (four of the five are for me)(and they have been sitting there for up to fifteen years (only one of them - long story) because I've been stopping to make gift quilts) so I can stay warm. The heat will be set high enough to keep the pipes from freezing, but not much higher.

I almost lost track of the parentheses in that last paragraph, and it is time to go home anyway. A good night's sleep will improve my thought processes immensely, I'm sure.
