Stress free, but productive. I went to the other Panera (there are more than two in town, but there are two equidistant from my home) early this morning. I puttered through the last lesson on the study I lead, then worked on the next lesson for the study I attend. Did some journaling, some reading, some eavesdropping on conversations. I was enjoying the sight of a tableful of Red Hat Society women...at least until I realized that I'll be eligible for membership myself in seven short months. Urgh.
Still, the newsboy-style hat covered in red sequins was kind of neat.
Then off to Aldi. Prices seem to have crept up a bit. Not enough to irritate, just enough to notice. Managed to get in and out of there in less than fifteen minutes - not bad, considering the line at the checkout.
Home. Put away the groceries, pop in a pizza for lunch, and sit down to enjoy some sewing.
These are the strip sets for a baby quilt for a friend. Again, picture taken with the palm pilot and colors are not exactly true. The squares are set on point; figuring finished size of an on-point quilt is one of those real-life applications of geometry. Remember the Pythagorean Theorem? Then there is the issue of figuring out the proper size square to cut, then cut twice on the diagonal, to yield the correct size setting triangle that will have the grain line running along the hypotenuse of the cut quarter square triangle.
OK, so I'm a math geek. There is a handy reference guide for quilters that will give you almost all the information you need to figure out what size to cut, assuming you can visualize what you want as your end result, and have a bit of common sense and basic math skills. Even so, it pays to cut and test a sample first.
At some point, I need to go get the potatoes out of the trunk. The overloaded tote bag, three bags of groceries and half gallon of milk made it into the house on one trip from the car. Adding the ten pound bag of spuds was beyond my capabilities. Since one of said taters is meant for lunch tomorrow, they need to come in; if they are left in the trunk through the day tomorrow, I probably won't need to bake them myself.
Tonight, make (box) brownies, put on some music and try to finish reading the novel I began last weekend. Early to bed, and back to work tomorrow. I could really get used to this Monday off schedule.
