We are stuck in a weather pattern not of our own chosing. For the last nine weeks, we've had snow, blowing, clearing, lather, rinse, repeat...repeat...repeat. We are currently under a winter storm warning, since we are expected to get a total of 12 - 14" of snow between dinner tonight and late afternoon tomorrow. If we receive more than 10 inches, we will have passed the average snowfall for February - by February 6th. There's a little comfort in knowing we are nowhere near the annual snowfall record (109 inches in 1896-1897), with only 52.4 inches so far this year. It's early days, though...
Since the university is slow to announce closing (they announce around 6:30 a.m., when at least four of us are already in the office), I am being proactive and submitting a vacation request for tomorrow. If we close, it will be torn up. If, for some ridiculous reason, we don't, I'm covered. Getting to work tomorrow morning might not be an issue, but coming home certainly would be.
If you are so inclined, say a prayer for those who must be out in that kind of weather. We take for granted that the radio and television stations will keep broadcasting, fire and police services will be available, technicians will keep the power working and water flowing and drivers for the snowplows will do their jobs. But all these people must first make the hazardous journey from their homes to their places of work. Better yet, send them a thank you note for their dedication to their work.
