Around these parts, the Milwaukee Public School system is the big kahuna. They never close for anything, unless the circumstances are dire. When I first checked at 5 a.m. or so, there were 168 closings. At 5:35 a.m., five minutes after MPS announced their closure, there were 435 closings. Huh.
The University announced at about 5:36 as well, via e-mail. Wonder of wonder, our associate comptroller called MJ, who activated the calling tree. Our resident crazy person was already at the office; in an unusual fit of I-must-rally-the-troops, our comptroller was going in to the office to let Bob (who would have received the university notice that we are closed, and who would have been happy with a phone call) know we were closed, and to send anyone home who did come in.
??!!!
Whatever.
It isn't too bad yet - maybe six plus inches on ground, but they say the worst is yet to come. I'm going to open the curtains and curl up on the couch - when my neighbors start to wander out to clear off cars, I'll join them. It needs to be done once before the next batch of snow gets dumped on us, and my ditzy neighbors need to be reminded that during a snow emergency, they should NOT move their cars to the other side of the street.
Yay for extra days off, boo for shoveling tons of snow.
