"Public Enemies", a movie about John Dillinger starring Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard and Christian Bale will be filmed partially in Wisconsin. While rumors flew for months, it is now official, and filming could start as soon as the end of next month.
Some of the location shoots are in Milwaukee. The linked article says a prior film about Dillinger (1990) had some footage shot in the Third Ward, just a hop, skip and jump from our offices. That particular area is uniquely suited to a period film, especially one set in the early 1930's. Due to the fire that destroyed much of the area in 1892 and the speed of the rebuilding, the buildings have an historical cohesiveness not seen in other areas of the city (this in spite of the recent spate of conversions of of Third Ward warehouse space to condos).
Everyone is in a tizzy - the first film taking advantage of the recently enacted tax breaks is giving us two recent Oscar winners and Batman.
Not bad.
