Maybe not quite that big, but mid-size Kia at least. Big, fat, wet snowflakes that not only stick to your nose and eyelashes, but completely envelop them. The type that sticks to the shovel, weighs in much heavier than you would expect by volume and converts to sloppy slush if it warms up, icy ridges if it freezes.
Milwaukee Public Schools closed just before 6 a.m. - they are normally the last hold-out, so the relatively early closing came as a surprise. The fear seems to be that they may not get the kids home after school; the snow/intermittent sleet is supposed to keep up until at least three p.m., followed by falling temps and freezing when the sun sets.
The state college in town is closed; we are still open. It's not so much that we are a hardier bunch, rather that we are a primarily residential campus, while UWM is mostly commuters. Besides, for what we charge in tuition, we had better stay open. It is also finals week, and rescheduling them is more hassle than dealing with the snow. Our Facilities unit is wonderful, keeping the sidewalks and parking lots as clear as possible. Once you get to work, moving around on campus isn't an issue.
Update: Well, slap me with a wet mitten - our office is letting us go. Now the ethical dilemma begins - to take work home or not? The odds of my doing anything with what I take home are really small....
