Light update

So...On Monday, LL called to say he had called an electrician, and the earliest they could come would be Saturday, Sept. 29 - a full WEEK of my peeing in the dark. The next available date after that would be Oct. 5.

Not acceptable.

I said I'd call JOAT and see if he could get me in earlier, which got me a very frosty response from LL. Hello? Shouldn't you have done some additional calling of your own? Apparently it's fine for me to have half the electric in the house out for a week. If he didn't hear from me by noon Tuesday that JOAT could do the work sooner, he would call the other company back, and take the Saturday slot.

So I leave a message for JOAT Monday morning around 9:30.

::crickets chirping::

Late afternoon Tuesday (after I'd left for home), JOAT left a message on my work line that he might be able to fit me in Wed. (he didn't get the message until then) - give him a call. I picked this message up at 6:43 a.m. Wednesday - a little too early to call.

Because I'm basically a nice person (evidence here to the contrary), I called LL just to verify it was still OK to have JOAT come in...and had to leave a message. Mind you, I couldn't call until 10 a.m., because he doesn't get up until pretty late and I had a 9 a.m. meeting - so it's already getting a little late to call JOAT back.

::crickets chirping::

At two, I called LL again, again getting the machine. I left a message saying that since I hadn't heard from him, I was turning JOAT down. I called JOAT and left him a message saying I couldn't reach LL, so we were off, at least for today. I'd call if things changed.

Ten minutes later, LL calls from a cell phone, all sweetness and light, saying it would be great if JOAT could come today.

It seems when he called the other company back to make the appointment, they said they didn't have any openings left Saturday, the next one being October 5th.

::BLINK::

Just exactly when did you think you were going to tell me this? I had assumed JOAT was either super busy, or simply hadn't gotten the message, and was almost resigned to waiting until Saturday. Did you ever intend to tell me it would be yet ANOTHER WEEK OF WAITING?

So I've called JOAT back and left another message.

All I really want here is a reasonable expectation that if I do have a repair issue, a sincere effort will be made to get things fixed as expeditiously as possible. There are other issues underlying this exchange, an explanation for the mood swings and contradictions of my LL, but frankly, I shouldn't be subject to them because he refuses to do what's best for himself.

I do have a plan to eventually buy a condo, but there's a time frame I cannot accelerate, and if I do move somewhere else now, the inevitable doubling in my rent expense will extend that time frame out even further.

In the meantime, I just need to pray nothing else breaks down.
