31 Days - Day 7: A bit of irony

To fully understand the irony here, you need to scroll down and read yesterday's post, about a baby quilt made for a little girl named Kara.

You see, today's quilt was also made for Kara, for her high school graduation eighteen years later. To make it even more interesting, the later quilt is also made up of pink, blue and light colored squares, arranged in what is called the New Trip Around the World pattern, which in itself is a variant of the pattern used for the baby quilt.

The really strange thing? I didn't realize any of this until I began scanning pictures for these posts.

I've posted about this quilt before; you may want to take a look at that post, as it gives a bit of the background of die cut kit from which the quilt was made. It also points out that sometimes, things don't quite go according to plan.

New Trip Around the World
Year: 2007
Size: Full (roughly 80 x 80)
Fabric: Poly cotton blend from a Robert Frank Needlework kit.
Pattern: New Trip Around the World.
Batting: Hobbs 80/20 (80% cotton, 20% polyester for stability)
Quilting: Machine quilted in the ditch.

This quilt was a bear to put together, only because the kit had each of the squares already cut out. With strip piecing methods, the top could have been completed in an afternoon, rather than the several Saturdays it took.

In spite of the kit being about thirty years old (possibly more) when it was finally assembled, the fabric held up well. Hopefully, the finished quilt will hold up just as long.

Sounds as if your memory held the thread (not meaning to stick in a pun) of what that original quilt looked like.

Such lovely work...hope she is loving it! :)

Not just one pun, but two (stick in...stick pins). The kit this was made from came from Kara's mom, when she cleaned out a family friend's house after her death. But yes, I probably did notice the similarily on an unconscious level.
