Forgive me: today is tax day, the day we need to have our returns postmarked, actually or electronically, in order to be considered as timely taxpayers.
Tax freedom day, on the other hand, isn't until April 18th. That is the day that the nation as a whole has earned enough to cover their tax liability for the current year.
So yes, we have to pay any balance due on the previous year's return before we've even earned enough in the current year to cover the current year taxes.
Isn't America grand?
