Three appliance night

For such a simple supper, it sure took a lot of cooking power. On the menu: homemade cream of broccoli soup and a cinnamon raisin bagel.

The soup recipe is the Creamy Asparagus Soup from the Everything Soup, Stew and Chili Cookbook, with the obvious substitution of broccoli for asparagus (which I hate). What is wonderful about the soup is that the broccoli has center stage - a little bit of garlic and shallot are the only additives beyond broth and cream. Yum.

But gee, what a mess. The stovetop is where the soup simmers, but the food processor got a workout pureeing the veggies. (I left about a third of the broccoli whole to give a bit chunkier soup). Adding the bagel meant pulling out the toaster oven as well. Good thing the kitchen is small; all I need to do to reach anything is turn around.
