Early Sunday

Well, perhaps not as early as I would have liked.  Oh, make no mistake - the sun isn't up yet - but I've been trying to lever myself out of bed for the last hour and a half. It's easy to continue resetting the alarm for half an hour later on Sunday mornings.

It's not as if I was out all night; bedtime was still before ten. Maybe it was the fact that the bedroom was finally cool enough for me to be comfortable, thanks to cranking the window open far enough to actually feel a breeze. Adjusting to the heating patterns in this place is taking a while.

Dinner with the neighbors was a lot of fun. Smart, sassy, intelligent women with whom I seem to have quite a bit in common. Well, except for dog ownership. The hostess for dinner is one of the few owners around here who doesn't have a dog (or two). There seems to be a real sense of community within the two or three buildings in this little area, fostered at least in part by the previous owners of my unit, who hosted get togethers several times a year. It seems I have a lot to live up to...

Not that I mind. But other things need to slow down a bit before I can think of planning a party. We're doing a reading at church this morning, then I'm off to the grocery for a few things, back home to make turkey soup (provided I remember to defrost the stock when I'm done here) and finally, after that, I can collapse in front of the television, wrapped up in a quilt with a box of kleenex to hand. Being sick when you really need to keep going isn't fun.

Flurries in the forecast for the day, though not enough to justify bringing out the winter dishes. We're two weeks beyond the average date of our first measurable snowfall - it will come sooner or later. Things are a bit upside down at the moment, as the local tv station claims today's high will be 48 degrees, and the current temperature is 50 degrees. I guess it is going to get colder?

Better get going. My local Starbucks (the closest one to me, opposed to the myriad other ones in the city) is done being remodeled, and I'd like to see it. Well, no, I lied - I desperately need coffee and I'd prefer someone else made it for me. It's going to be a long morning.
