Good morning! Grab a mug of coffee and have a seat. For a special treat today, we have apple/cranberry pies with raisins.
The pie is a silent auction item, baked by an impressively domestic coworker and successfully bid on by yours truly. It tastes incredible. The only drawback is that I have no coffee myself to go with it (couldn't carry the pie and a cup of coffee into the office, along with the purse and work bag...priorities demanded the pie make it in). You may want to hurry if you want a slice; I've put it out for my coworkers to enjoy, and food disappears quickly around here.
Crazy week. Last Saturday was the first time the Canasta Chicks came to the new place. We had a small group, and one new victim...er, volunteer. How wonderful it is to remember that God invented laughter for us to enjoy, and how much it soothes the soul!
Picking the meat off a bird carcass has to be one of my least favorite jobs of all cooking tasks, but the results are worth it. There are pounds of packaged turkey meat in the freezer, along with a nice big container of broth. Next week the temperature is dropping into the high twenties (for daytime highs, not nighttime lows) and I'm already having daydreams of hot turkey soup by the fire.
Our departmental Christmas party - one of the joys of working for a Jesuit institution is that we can still call it that, rather than "holiday" party - was yesterday afternoon. No Santa this year, but a coworker (male) dressed in full elf costume - yellow tights, green tunic, funny hat and curled-toe shoes. Did I mention he is 6'4" tall?
Busy day tomorrow as well - hair appointment, rehearsal and then dinner with the neighbor ladies. The women who live across the path and in one of the other buildings have invited this "new girl". It should be a lot of fun, judging from the women I've already met.
I'm hoping next week is slow. The tree has been "up" for a week (four foot prelit little thing), but I've yet to put an ornament on it. Then there is the matter of locating the angel...need to go back to the packing lists to figure out where she may be hiding.
Discussion question: which day do you do your St. Nick stockings? The evening of the 5th into the 6th, or the evening of the 6th into the 7th? Just curious.
*Update in the comments on just exactly what the St. Nick stockings are!
