According to Accuweather.com, the Midwest needs to brace for a "brutal", cold and snowy winter. They predict the worst hit city to be Chicago, just ninety miles south of here. One of their meteorologists even says, "People in Chicago are going to want to move after this winter."
Well, don't they always?
You can't blame me for feeling just a little bit smug. The condo has underground parking, and a landscape crew that is responsible for all the digging out and plowing. Thanks to the way the place was built and upgraded, I've both gas and electric heat, should they be needed.
The downside, though is massive windows, along with two sets of patio doors. The doors I can - and will - shrink wrap with weatherproofing plastic (did you know you can get a starter kit free every other year from We Energies just for the asking?), but the big, trapezoidal windows above the living room patio doors are too high to reach, even with a decent sized ladder. Or rather, too high for me to risk my neck to cover in order to save a couple bucks on the heating bill.
The local weather crew won't make any predictions until later in November, but thanks to a little tool called the Lezak Recurring Cycle, once they do, they have been extremely accurate. After that cycle sets up in fall, it comes back around like clockwork.
Still, we've a little time to prepare, to check the car battery, stock up on essentials and mentally gird up to face the cold. But before that, I intend to spend one more Saturday sitting in the sun on the patio reading; the forecast high for then is seventy-eight degrees.
