Good...almost afternoon. This having Friday off is messing with my schedule, though it is a Godsend for getting things...sort of done.
Just as I'm needing to gear up to pack, people are gearing up for the start of the school year, and as a result, things are picking up socially. Out to coffee last night with a dear young friend and her husband, who currently live in Mississippi but were "home" for a few weeks, visiting. It is always so wonderful (and a bit aging) to see the little girls I met when they were 4th grade Chums in AWANA growing into interesting, smart, incredible young ladies, with equally awesome husbands.
Tomorrow night it's off to another state for dinner. It's not as far as it sounds, and these friends actually make the journey up here every Sunday to join us for church, so it is the least I can do. Next weekend is a birthday party for a three year old, the next a summer end picnic...the list goes on. I'm thinking I really need to imitate a hermit and stay in my "shell" and pack.
I've been saying all along that the physical act of packing isn't what is making me so tired, but rather it's the constant decision making - move, toss, donate - that is so exhausting. Well, research bears me out. The article is rather lengthy, but decision fatigue is a very real state with a physical connection. We simply get mentally worn out, incapable of making anymore sound decisions.
If you skip ahead to page five of the article, you'll see the researchers discovered a solution to that mental fatigue: simple glucose improved performance significantly, if only for a limited time.
After a long day of making choices while packing, you'll know where to find me: off in a corner restoring my decision-making abilities with a Snickers.
