Mad skillz

For those of you playing along, the issue at home was indeed a dead monitor. I can't say I blame it; it is at least six years old, which is 12,000 years in computer time. The poor thing is on its way to the great recycling place in the sky.

Meanwhile, the new one is set up, and listing like a sailor after a weeks' liberty. Beautiful monitor on a very cheap stand. A bit of glue and felt will fix that. It will take some getting used to, as it is both bigger (23") and a different shape than the old. But my old eyes are loving the larger screen.

As a reward for my diligence, I'm planning to quilt a good portion of the afternoon. While the sun is shining brightly, it is pretty cool, with a wicked breeze (neither of which facts kept me from popping the moon roof up again; Wisconsinites, we're crazy) and staying in under a massive sewing project sounds heavenly.

A young friend called last night asking for a binding lesson. While she's made at least four quilts, every one of them has been pillowcased rather than having a traditional binding. In the interest of keeping her sane, I'll show her the easy way, not the easy-with-practice method I use to put on mitered bindings. Exactly when the lesson will take place is up in the air; she left a message for me last night about the time I started dozing off, while I left a message for her this morning before she got up (not that early; I always wait until after nine to give the night owls a chance to wake up).
