As the voting booth turns...

...a new daytime drama brought to you by the fine voters of Wisconsin.

Both the statewide and local races voted upon yesterday resulted in final candidates who represent, if not conservative parties, at least common sense policies.  To my utter delight, the power-hungry county board chairman, who was running for county exec, came in fourth of five candidates, beating only a woman who has (twice, now) tried to include in her campaign slogan words that were both profane and racist.

In other news, our new governor is still trying to break the public unions' stranglehold on the state budget.  The Madison teachers' union organized a sick out that forced the district to close the school, but that's Madison, our liberal heart.  The vote on the bill is scheduled for noon today, and there is a reasonable chance it will pass.

Painful as all this is, both on a governmental level and a personal one for many people, the change is needed.  We can't afford to keep running the state the way it has been run, or we will end up much like California in very short order.  Short term "fixes" won't cut it this time.
