As much as I love these two week plus vacations, it does make it difficult to remember what day it is. Wednesday, right? Errand day, apparently. Bank, hair salon (actually went yesterday, but they were out of the product I needed - they were nice enough to pick it up later that day, now I need to go get it), Aldi and then either the police station or city hall to get a parking permit.
Except - I checked the city website to find out if the cost had increased (no), and discovered that they now accept on-line payment. The permit is then mailed to you. It certainly is much easier than going to city hall and trying to fight my way through the property tax payers' line to get to the counter for the permits. One less place to go.
Good thing, as gas prices are a bit nuts. Monday morning I filled my nearly empty tank at $2.95 per gallon; by Tuesday morning, the same station was at $3.10. Yikes. I may have to rethink moving further out from the city.
Speaking of the city, our county exec won the governor spot in the last election, and so stepped down from the county position as of yesterday. His temporary replacement is the head of the County Board - as one news opinion guy described him, an "ethically compromised, power hungry, problematic landlord with delusions of godhood". And that was being kind. He's fired four people already, including the budget director, who dared to disagree with him last October (and was thoroughly chewed out by the Board president for "disrespecting the Board"). He's already making noise about running for the position himself...lunatics like this are one reason I want to move out of the county, regardless of the increasing cost of gas.
Friends are coming for dinner tomorrow night, along with their three precious little girls (including a set of twins, with all three siblings under age three). I've taken down Christmas, but need to do a sweep of the flat at toddler level to make sure nothing problematic is sitting out. Jambalaya for dinner, partly because I have the andouille in the freezer, and partly because David spent a year in NOLA with a ministry organization. Fresh baguette, salad or another veggie and dessert...maybe frozen hot chocolate?
At least the sun is shining...which leads to another errand: have the car washed. Sigh.
