Eight signs that fall is really here

1.  The furnace unexpectedly turns on while you still have several windows open - and are quite comfortable.

2.  You spend an hour disassembling, cleaning and reassembling four fans so they can be put away for the winter - but then decide to leave them out for another few days, just in case.

3.  The evening news forecast routinely contains both the phrases "unseasonably warm" and "unseasonably cool".

4.  You suddenly realize that multiple lights are on in every room of the house - at six p.m.

5.  You find nothing incongruous about having a cup of hot chocolate along with your end-of-summer caprese salad.

6.  It is too cool in the morning not to wear a jacket or sweater, but too warm after work to put it back on.

7.  Pieces of chestnut shells litter all the concrete walkways and steps.

8.  Nothing is on television on Saturday except college football, college football and more college football.
