Too lazy to pack a lunch this morning, I headed to the neighborhood McDonald's to grab a coffee and a salad. The line stood seven cars deep when I joined it, unusual for that time of the morning. Seven minutes later, I'm finally at the top of the queue, only to find out their debit machine is on the fritz, so it's cash only - cash I don't carry.
No problem. I'll take city streets to work and stop at the McDonald's on 25th and National. Sun in my eyes, I headed east. With the sun glare, it was hard to see where to make the left turn into their parking lot...but it was a moot point.
It no longer exists.
Instead of a busy restaurant, there is a hole in the ground and a half dozen construction vehicles. So much for that.
Further east, then cut over to Wisconsin, dodge around the construction crews working on our new Engineering building, then, o blessed relief, a parking spot in front of the campus Starbucks. A plain bagel and a venti soy hazelnut latte. Bliss.
Which still leaves the question of lunch. I could go the McD's on 27th and Wisconsin to pick up a salad...only a massive sinkhole appeared on that corner a week ago and they are still working on fixing it. The odds are, I won't be able to get to that one either.
Fortunately, there is left over cake in the kitchen. Cake for lunch, I suppose.
