A week or so ago I began a daily writing exercise that is supposed to get rid of all the mental clutter you carry around, leaving only the good stuff to be processed and spit out in the form of blog posts or what have you. In spite of this, I seem to have a case of (if you'll pardon the image) mental constipation: too much in there that can't get out, and most of it...well, of less than stellar quality. So here we are again, with a dump (pardon the image) of what's been on my mind.
Operator error - again. Set the coffee maker up last night, making SURE I put the coffee in. Water? Check. Filter? Check. Coffee grounds? Check. Auto brew set to correct time? Check. Coffee maker clock set to correct current time? Check. Coffee maker turned on? Check.
Yet 5:45 a.m. found me standing in front of the coffee machine, once again wondering what went wrong. There is a "sneak a cup" feature; however, if the coffee pot isn't seated just right on the burner, the lid doesn't force the spring-loaded ball up far enough, so the coffee moved very slowly from filter basket to carafe. My fault. At this rate, I'm better off simply making the coffee from scratch in the morning rather than trying to use the timer; it's evident I'm not awake enough in the evening to correctly set it up.
Better yet, stop at Starbucks.
Spider Woman - Every time it is especially humid for a stretch of time, the spiders in the basement go crazy. I squished at least five of them during the course of doing one load of laundry - the spindly legged, small bodied things that move just under the speed of light. But they are no match for the Broom of Death (TM). I hate spiders.
Redecorating - I have this almost irresistible urge to chuck everything on my walls - and a good portion of the furniture. The funny thing is, I don't really want to replace any of it. Going minimalist, I guess.
Good night - Nothing like dreaming you are trapped in an oversize version of a computer game modeled on the ubiquitous FarmVille, Frontier World...etc. Little pixel people swirling all around you...ugh.
Decision time - I'm about to give my landlord an ultimatum of sorts. I'm fully prepared to follow through on it, but it will change a number of other plans: while I'm sure of this particular decision, the ones to follow will be a bit trickier. Eh, what the heck, why not?
Why did I wait until mid-July to buy strawberries for the first time this summer? Yum.
Three weeks from last night is the Third Day concert at the Fair. I bought the tickets back in April - it's about time this thing rolled around. On the up side - I can spend the entire day at the Fair. On the down side, Fair week parking issues. On the up side, this may not be an issue next year.
Stupid crickets/frogs/those icky bugs that give that long squeal-y sound. Summer nights are noisy.
Do you think if we locked all the Washington politicians in a tin shed for the duration of their August recess, it would sweat the stupid out of them? Nah - me neither. But it would still be fun to do.
